The Gig economy was born.

A gig is a small job to carry out a specific task and the Gig economy is the buying and selling of these “small jobs”. The Gig economy didn’t start today, it was more known back then as contract jobs and the workers were contractors/labour. Now, the jobs are called gigs and the workers freelancers.

How does the Gig Economy work?

Basically,  people (freelancers) are hired to carry out particular jobs for which they get paid. Payment varies on the type of job, the requirements, the expertise of the freelancer, etc. Its not a full employment but it pays so well, some people have built houses with the income.

Take for instance a web designer who charges #10,000 for a simple website. If he does 5 of those in a month, that amounts to #50,000. He doesn’t have to own a business or pay for office rent. He works from the comfort of his home and is paid in the comfort of his home.

Freelancing has taken the world by storm, in different countries with sites like Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer and yours true, MySkillDomain providing online presence to freelancers.

These platforms enable you to sell your skills as services to willing buyers. By signing up and creating gigs(services) like the one below, you attract buyers interested in what you offer.

Services are agreed upon and paid for on the platforms and the money can be withdrawn at intervals.

I think this is even better than jollof rice

In our next post, we will go into the nitty gritty of freelancing and how you can become a freelancer, earning money with your skills and talents.
